HYBRID MEMBRANE is investigating the process of digital ultrasonic joining technology for innovations in technical textiles and outdoor products. By modifying the process in the form of a single, digitally controlled ultrasonic sonotrode, conventional mechanically joined or bonded seams can be replaced with a continuous welding path.
An important part of the research in the field of sleeping bag production was the visit to Yeti and the resulting cooperation. Yeti is a company based in Görlitz that produces high-quality sleeping bags in Germany under the Nordisk brand. The insight into the production, as well as the comprehensive support with material and production know-how contributed to the development of demonstrator.
In this experiment, the construction and development of the prototyping method is a significant and formative part of the product.
This prototyping tool was used to experimentally explore the design spectrum for air- and watertight seams within the fashion and outdoor textile industry. The design of an inflatable sleeping bag serves as an exemplary application of the explored potentials.
